This presentation is a look at how NECB 2020 and future energy codes are impacting our building industry and the way we design buildings. Jacob believes that we have reached a tipping point of what is considered risky and will discuss the implications of building traditional systems in a world rapidly moving away from fossil fuels. He will go over some details of NECB 2020, the changes from NECB 2017, the impacts, and what it means for building envelopes and mechanical systems. We’ll discuss future changes in energy codes (as this is the last one technically) and what they mean for design teams and clients. The presentation will also offer a path forward for sustainable buildings and how to achieve really high energy targets very easily.

Explore how you can become a design ally for people with disabilities. Universal Design or Design-for-All is a design approach that benefits both people with disabilities and anyone else.
- Become acquainted with Universal Design.
- Learn how different terms result in different degrees of meaningful access.
- Review how the National Building code is a legal minimum that is anemic in barrier-free design.
- Explore trusted sources of architectural information that can guide your practice so your projects can made Canada as inclusive as possible.
Through her research, design and advocacy, Lara Pinchbeck is an award-winning inclusive design specialist. As a socio-spatial researcher, she explores how people interact with their material environment. As a design anthropologist, she explores how design processes can continue to be more inclusive and to produce more inclusivity. As a Professional Accessibility Assessor, Lara works with designers and others to achieve high degrees of functional accessibility. As a Professional Human Ecologist, she focuses on how everyone can go about their everyday activities with the most ease and enjoyment.
Lara Pinchbeck has a rich combination of education, practice, and lived experience including design studies (architecture + material culture), critical disability studies, user engagement, knowledge transfer, and evaluation. Most recently, she is traipsing through doctoral studies.
